Treasure of Lorestan Water, authored by Ata Hassanpour and Reza Mirzaei, was published in 2019 by Ham-Pa Publishing House. The book seeks to document the water structures of Lorestan Province based primarily on field surveys and a limited number of documentary sources, mainly the registration records of cultural heritage sites. The present study provides a critical scholarly evaluation of this book in order to assess its academic credibility and identify its strengths and weaknesses. The central research question examines the extent to which Treasure of Lorestan Water conforms to accepted standards of scientific research with respect to its structure, methodology, documentation, and content. This study employs a critical review approach based on the systematic evaluation of the book against established criteria for scholarly research. The findings indicate that, despite some formal strengths, the book exhibits substantial methodological and content-related shortcomings. Although it addresses an important and relatively underexplored subject, it falls short of the principles and standards expected of academic research. The absence of critical analysis, limited interpretation of the archaeological evidence, excessive reliance on illustrative images, and the predominantly descriptive presentation of the documented water structures reduce the work to an illustrated catalogue rather than a scholarly study. Moreover, even as a catalogue, the book frequently provides disorganized, incomplete, inaccurate, and superficial descriptions that diminish its overall research value
